About Thérèse
Thérèse Elkerbout, originally from The Netherlands, emerged as the winner in the Research category, highlighting her commitment to advancing dental science. Currently serving as a Dental Hygienist and Clinical Epidemiologist at the Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), Thérèse has dedicated her career to the pursuit of excellence in dental hygiene. Alongside her professional endeavors, she leads the Help-Uganda-Foundation (HUG), combining her passion for oral health with humanitarian efforts. Thérèse seamlessly integrates her expertise by working as a dental hygienist in oral hygiene practices, volunteering at the ACTA periodontology department on evidence-based dental hygiene and offering her services in Uganda. Recognized for her outstanding contributions, she was awarded a PhD in December 2022, solidifying her position as a leader in the field.
