Pernille Mose

Denmark

Over the past 12 years, the Tooth Fairies Project has achieved remarkable results, and it's inspiring to see the difference a dental hygienist can make. About Pernille

Pernille is 47 years old and has dedicated her life to dental care and education in the field. She graduated as a dental hygienist in 2005 and has since built an extensive career spanning various areas of dental care. Her experience includes teaching in the dental hygienist program, as well as working in pediatric and specialized dental care. She now works in private practice, where she continues to make a difference for her patients.


In addition to her work in Denmark, Pernille is also deeply involved in humanitarian work. In 2012, she founded the Tooth Fairy Project, a project aimed at improving dental care in Gambia. Since then, she has traveled to Gambia 13 times and established her own dental clinic, which she has built from the ground up. She manages all aspects of the project, including development, staff training, and fundraising.


Pernille is passionate about the project in Gambia because it makes a significant difference in the quality of life for local children and families. She dreams of expanding her influence on public health to larger parts of the country, continuing to improve lives through better dental care.


Pernille's commitment to the Tooth Fairy Project demonstrates her dedication to making a difference, not only in her home country but also in developing countries. Her work in Gambia is a clear example of her ability to combine professional expertise with a deep passion for helping others.

About Jacqueline

"Whole health, not just oral health" has always been her mantra. Her journey to Ohh! spanned over 34 years, encompassing a diverse career in dentistry across the NHS, private sector, hospitals, the Royal Army Dental Corps, teaching, specialized roles, and overseas charity work with Dentaid. In 2020/2021, during the Covid pandemic and the lockdown of dentistry in the UK, she found the courage to take a bold step and created Scotland's first stand-alone Direct Access dental hygienist practice.

Ohh! Oral Health Hygienist Ltd reflects her firm belief that being a Dental Hygienist is about vocation, not vacation. Now entering its fourth year, the practice is multi-award-winning, highly rated, and deeply embedded in local communities, consistently exceeding her vision of providing friendly, safe, non-judgemental education, advice, and care.

Janet Williams Oshun

About Janet

Janet Williams Oshun is a registered Dental Hygienist from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. She currently works in two private practices. Her passion for creating positive change in oral health led her to actively participate in workshops, mentoring projects and impactful oral health presentations.

For her dissertation, Janet researched the impact of ethnic and cultural practices on oral health, highlighting the need to incorporate culturally inclusive approaches to oral care. Janet's involvement has earned her the "Best Community Oral Health Project Award" from TCD and an article publication in the Dentistry.co.uk magazine.

She has also spoken at the NSK Ikigai Webinar and presented at the Irish Dentistry Show 2024, advocating for global awareness of various oral practices and culturally inclusive dental care. Recently, she was chosen as the KIN Hygienist of the Year Leinster finalist for 2024.

Andrea Butera

About Andrea

After graduating in Dental Hygiene in 2009, he obtained the Master's Degree in Technical Health Professions in 2011, both at the University of Genoa. In 2012 he obtained the Advances in Dental Hygiene and Oral Care, University at Buffalo and in 2021 the International PhD in Health Sciences, UCAM University of Murcia - University of Pavia.

From 2018 to date he has been Director of Teaching Activities of the Dental Hygiene Course of Studies at the University of Pavia and has held a Research Fellow MED/50, from June 2021 to date. He is currently a Contract Professor at the Dental Hygiene Course of Studies and at the Degree Course in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics at the University of Pavia.

In July 2024 he obtained the national scientific qualification for the role of Associate Professor. He is also a teacher at Masters of I and II Level in topics related to Oral Hygiene. He is co-author of numerous articles and scientific contributions and is a member of editorial committees of international journals in the sector. He regularly holds reports at national and international courses and conferences and is an active member of the Society of Oral Hygiene Sciences (SISIO).

About Stefania

Stefania graduated in 2012, and holds a master’s degree in periodontology and implantology, oral pathology, and perinatal and pediatric oral hygiene. For about ten years, she has been a volunteer at the "Onda Rosa" anti-violence center for women and children (as a Dental Hygienist and as an operator). For years she has been the dental hygienist of a sheltered home for children without parents.

In 2020, Stefania created a guide "Oral Hygiene in chemotherapy and radiotherapy", to help patients who are on this therapeutic path, provide free treatment and consultation to patients in care and patients with cancer of the head neck district. She is also the creator of children’s books explaining MIH, enamel lesions and teeth stains, a book series meant for introducing children to the dental sphere, and wrote a guide on oral hygiene during pregnancy.

About Mário

Mario has PhD in Psychology (2021) by the University of Lisbon (Psychology School) and a master degree in Health Psychology (1999). He is now finishing his degree completion in Psychology. His research in the area of behavior change, focuses in the joint role of self-regulatory processes in daily oral hygiene behaviors to enhance the oral health of patients and therapeutic relationships with oral health professionals. He is a graduate of the Dental Hygiene Program at the University of Lisbon (1990) and earned a bachelor´s degree in Science (Dental Hygiene) from the University of Washington, Seattle (1993).

He has been a teacher in oral health sciences since 1990. First at Lisbon Dental School; after he was coordinator of the first Dental Hygiene Bachelor’s Degree in Portugal at ISAVE (Alto Ave Health School) and now he is an Adjunctive Professor and Director of the Dental Hygiene Bachelor's Degree Program at Portalegre University Health School. He is also a guest teacher in several Universities in different countries.

He is also an international speaker in oral health behavior modification and communication skills, having delivered numerous guest lectures in various countries of the world. He is an official educator for Curaden Academy.

In addition to his education experience, Mario worked for the Portuguese Government as project manager in the Portuguese Oral Health Promotion Program. In 2013, he and his team were the recipient of the prestigious Sunstar World Dental Hygiene Award in Cape Town (SA) for the best oral health project. Lives in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, one wife, 4 kids, 3 cats, photographer whenever he can, also plays with Lego as an official Lego Serious Play Facilitator.
