A night dedicated to investigating how oral health can impact on elite althetes' ability to perform at the highest levels

Sunstar held the first Perio Link Night on 22nd June 2018 under the title "Oral health: The Achilles heel of elite athletes".

The night at the A'Dam Tower in Amsterdam featured a series of discussions and interviews with notable figures from periodontics and other fields, including Dr Mike Loosemore, MBE (chief medical officer to the British Olympic Boxing and Snow Sports teams), Dr Ian Needleman (Professor of Periodontology and Evidence-Informed Healthcare at University College London's Eastman Dental Institute), and Dr Paul Boom (Chief Dental Officer of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport).

Discussions centered around how neglect of oral health can impact on elite athletes' abilities to perform at the highest levels, and included a series of video testimonials by athletes such as Anthony Joshua, OBE, British world heavyweight boxing champion.

The event also recognised outstanding research in the field of periodontics through the World Perio Research Award and Perio Link Award.
